Author Visits

I would love to visit your school, library, book club, or organization!

I offer both in-person and virtual visits to speak with young readers and adults on a variety of topics, including writing and revising, my journey to becoming an author, diverse representation in children’s literature, and my books. I tailor presentations to classroom-size groups and larger audiences, collaborate with organizers to determine the best programming for their needs, and offer options for full-day or half-day visits.

Frequently Asked Questions

What grades are your books for?

My middle grade books have a target audience of readers ages 8-12, which translates to 3rd to 6th grade in the US. My young adult books are for readers 13 and over (7th grade and above).

How do we purchase your books before the visit?

Once we confirm the visit, I’ll work with a local independent bookstore or one of your choosing to handle sales. This can be, for example, a bulk purchase by your organization and/or fliers about the visit sent home with attendees a few weeks before the event, to give them time to make individual purchases.

What’s your policy on photography or recording during the visit?

Photography and limited recording are fine. I also understand the importance of protecting your kids’ privacy, so as a standard practice, I do not publicly share images that show young readers’ unobscured faces without consent.

Well-written doesn’t always mean well-spoken. Are you comfortable speaking in front of large groups?

Yes! I’m an experienced public speaker, from my work as an attorney for over a decade and a half and from countless panels, speeches, and school visits. This means I’m used to tailoring my words and tone to best suit the audience: how I speak with legal colleagues is not the same as how I engage with a high school classroom, which is also not the same as how I engage with an auditorium full of middle schoolers. And while I may come with slides to offer visuals of my writing process or book covers, I focus on interacting directly with the audience rather than reading straight from a prepared script.

In addition, I received the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Sid Fleischman Humor Award, which I love to tout as proof that someone out there thinks I’m funny. There are plenty of examples of my speaking engagements (check Instagram or my Press page for links to YouTube or podcast interviews) if you’d like a preview.
